MDL/I includes two products, separately licensed, for builders ofapplications that generate and interpret the Computer Graphics Metafile(CGM) format, the ISO standard format for graphical interchange.MDL/I's toolkit is a C-language function library for building metafileinterpreting applications. It is a complete implementation of the CGMstandard, including all three standard encodings (binary, character, andclear text), and all CGM elements. MDL/I supports the interpretation ofCALS-compliant (MIL-D-28) metafiles as well.The unique GSL design philosophy of MDL/I allows basic CGM applicationsto be built quickly, literally in a matter of days in some cases, andthen enhanced/refined incrementally as need arises and time permits. TheGSL architecture provides a clean separation of user applicationfunctions from CGM processing functions. This both acceleratesdevelopment and enables a workable maintenance program, so thatapplication builders can stay abreast of changes in the CGM standard andimprovements in technology.
